Countdown to Christmas
Well, the Christmas season is once again upon us. As of tomorrow, we will begin our countdown to Christmas. As a child, my mom always counted down the days to Christmas with us with an Advent calendar as well as her own special way which was a gift a day. The gifts were minimal and usually something useable…erasers, pencils, a small toy or even candy. I carried on this tradition when Bryan was born. Well, I think I started when he was 2-1/2 and old enough to understand. Now with two children, I have been trying to figure out what to do. The beautiful countdown pocket Santa I bought does not have big enough pockets to hold two small anythings but hershey kisses. So, that’s what I did with it…small bits of candy & snacks. But I still wanted to do something special with the kiddos. So, I opted for the book a day. I bought 24 books, wrapped them and put them in a basket. Then I made them each a blanket. So, every night the kids will open a book and we will snuggle together as a family under blankets made by mom and read. Check back daily as we countdown to Christmas and find out what book we read.
DAY 1:
The kiddos were so excited to start their countdown to Christmas books that I could barely hold them off until after dinner. Together they chose a booked and unwrapped it together. Then we curled up next to the fireplace with their blankets and pillows. We read “Little Porcupine’s Christmas” by Joseph Slate. This book was new to me as well as the kiddos. Bryan’s favorite part was when Little Porcupine became a star. You will have to read the book to find out the whole story, but rest assured the book is cute and comes with a lesson. Until tomorrow!
